There’s no doubt that Brittany is one of the most gorgeous areas of France due to its variety of landscapes and wonderful coastline. There are even some excellent islands here and it’s basically a sports and outdoor lover’s paradise. These are some of the top areas to visit in Brittany.

1. Pays des Abers

The Pays des Abers lies on the northern coast and provides some of the most dramatic scenes in Brittany. When you head west of the community of Brignogan the coastline is filled with beaches, rock formations, narrow estuaries, picturesque fishing villages, and quaint seaside towns.

2. Presqu’Île de Crozon

The Crozon Peninsula is shaped like an anchor and is filled with some fantastic biking and hiking trails that lie underneath the many magnificent cliffs. The coastal region is partly forested, but there are plenty of sandy beaches to spend the sunny days at.

3. Golfe du Morbihan

This area sits on the southern coast of Brittany and is known as the Morbihan Gulf. There are plenty of lovely islands where you’ll be able to witness some fascinating bird life. You’ll also find some Celtic megaliths and oyster farms.

4. Côte de Granit Rose

There’s an excellent footpath here which takes you along the scenic coast. You’ll see some amazing pink granite rocks as well as endless gorgeous scenery.

5. Sein

Sein

This is an island that sits across the sea channel from Pointe du Raz. It’s known as a tranquil retreat and is still a working fishing area. There’s a small harbor here with granite houses overlooking it. There are no cars allowed in some areas. Along the north shore you’ll come across the Goulenez lighthouse.

6. Ile de Bréhat

Île de Bréhat is just over a mile from the mainland and is one of the most picturesque along the north coast of Brittany. The climate here is quite mild and you’ll find the island’s home to palm trees, rare flowers, eucalyptus, and mimosa. You can walk from one end of the island to the other in about an hour. Along the way you’ll be treated to some beautiful small coves where you can stop for a picnic and to take in the views.

7. Ouessant

Ouessant is another dramatic region of Brittany. If you head to Le Conquet you can take a boat across to the island. You’ll find two lighthouses here, one of them is Phare de Créac’h, which is the most powerful of all the world’s lighthouses. The other one has just over 100 steps and when you reach the top you’ll see some breathtaking panoramic views of the countryside. The best beach on the island is Plage de Corz and there’s also a great coastal hiking path.

8. Belle Île

Bell Île is the biggest island in Brittany and is filled with marvelous beaches. You’ll find that Plage de Donnant is one of the most popular beaches with surfers while Plage de Baluden and Plage d’Herlin both have calm and shallow waters, making them ideal locations for families. However, Plage des Grands Sables could very well be the best of them all. You’ll be able to enjoy a range of activities here such as diving, surfing, sea kayaking, and golfing. There’s also a beautiful coastal route to cycle or hike along.
