The Edinburgh Festival is held every year and consists of everything from a comedy event, a book festival, a military tattoo and the largest fringe festival on the globe.

In recent years the festival which is held during the Summer months, has become more significant attracting people from different countries all over the world.

Edinburgh is a very beautiful city, with many historic buildings and remarkable landscapes created by the ice age from its volcanic origins. It is believed to have the finest collection of stone tenements and Georgian architecture in the whole of Europe. There are also great examples of buildings dating back from medieval times.

After Glasgow, Edinburgh is Scotland’s second biggest city and one of the largest in the United Kingdom. It has a population of nearly half a million people and has been the capital since the fifteenth century. It is now a vibrant modern city geographically located on the easterly coast of Scotland’s central belt.

Other notable dates include Hogmanay, which is what the Scots refer to New Years Eve as, as well as Burns night which is celebrated on the 25th of January.

The first Edinburgh festival was held back in 1947 and has gone from strength to strength in recent years. In fact the city has previously been known as the Athens of the North.
