Hawaiki Nui Va'a Canoe Race

The total length of the gruelling race is 78 miles and it’s completed in three separate stages. The first one is between Huahine and Raiatea, the second stage is between Raiatea and Tahaa, and the final leg of the competition is between Tahaa and Bora Bora.

As you can tell, the event is physically demanding and requires a lot of endurance. After everybody has crossed the finishing point in Bora Bora at Pointe Matira, the party starts and you’ll be able to participate in a traditional and lively Polynesian celebration that features endless music and partying.

A Va’a canoe is a traditional outrigger model and is made by hollowing out a log. They’re very traditional and can be seen in most of the South Pacific. The Hawaiki race attracts participants from all over the world.
