The historical Spanish city of Seville holds many celebrations and festivals each year with one of the most popular being the annual Feria de Abril, (April fair) with its dynamic schedule of events. This year’s edition will take place from May 3rd to the 8th and will attract thousands of visitors as usual.

The fair hosts many different activities such as horse parades, day-long flamenco parties and several feria marquees.

If you head to the south side of the Puente de la Barqueta bridge you’ll cross the scenic Río Guadalquivir and end up in the wonderful city of Real de la Feria.

It’s here where you’ll find more than 1000brightly colored marquees which are covered paper lanterns and decorations. These become the temporary homes to thousands of celebrants and are filled day and night with partying flamenco dancers.

A lot of the marquees are also rented out for private functions and activities which are put on by a variety of businesses, clubs and families, etc. You might need an invitation for some of the affairs, but you’ll also be able to pop in and out of others freely and visit their bars without an invite.

One of the most popular drinks to try is a cool Rebujito, which is a refreshing combination of Sprite and Manzanilla sherry.

When the night falls you’ll be able to witness numerous flamenco events and some of these might last all night long, not finishing until the sun comes up the next morning. Some residents of Seville show up dressed from head-to-toe in colorful flamenco costumes and dance the night away, literally.

During the daytime you can enjoy the procession of horsemen and carriages which is known as the Paseo de Caballos.

The horses parade throughout Seville along with wonderfully decorated carriages. The occupants, naturally, are decked out in traditional flamenco dress. There are also bullfights at the Plaza de Toros de Maestranza de Caballería.
