Pregnancy is a very special period of your life. Traveling while pregnant may be risky, especially if you are choosing to travel to some exotic destinations. Here are few tips about traveling and pregnancy. The first thing you should do if you are planning a trip is to consult with your doctor.

If your doctor allows traveling, make sure you have travel insurance for your condition.

If you are traveling by air, there are some specific rules you need to know. The air companies allow flights during pregnancy till the 36th week of the pregnancy, but this isn’t a rule, especially if you need some extra care.

Typically the future moms are allowed to fly, if they don’t have some medical problems like blood clots in the veins of their legs. Find an air company that is offering perfect conditions for pregnant women.

One of the rules is the air humidity. If the flight is long, the air humidity should be increased. Sitting still for too long isn’t recommendable; so you should try to make little walks during the flight.

Another issue you should be concerned about is the medicines and vaccines. Pregnancy isn’t the right time to take vaccines or some extra medicines.

If it is necessary and your GP allows, a vaccine should be used with caution. Don’t forget that if you are going to another country, the climate change may cause some serious diseases, including flu.

Try to avoid traveling to other countries, for they may lead to some illness.

In case you don’t mind risking, inform your doctor about your condition no matter where are you flying, but remember that you should avoid taking drugs.

If you are pregnant, avoid malaria prone areas.

The malaria can cause serious problems to pregnant women, for their immune system is decreased.

Avoid traveling during the second, third and fourth months. The “good” months for traveling are the fifth and the sixth months. The risk of catching some diseases, infections and even increasing the bouts of vomiting is from the beginning of the seventh month till the ninth month of your pregnancy.

Don’t forget to drink more water during traveling. Avoid eating some local foods and drinks, for they can cause you some gastric problems.
