Vienna opens its numerous, attractive Christmas markets around the middle of November. From the large ones to the most humble, around 20 markets appear all over Vienna. This is why many visitors are attracted by this fairytale city around Christmas, knowing that the Vienna Christmas market tradition is alive since 1294.
From November and until the holidays, the tourists can visit the Vienna museums, to admire the city architecture and to take part in the events that are organized here during holidays. Around the Christmas markets, concerts and workshops are organized and everything gets decorated for Christmas. Everyday, beautiful Christmas Concerts are also played at Schonbrunn Castle.
The traditional Vienna Christmas market is open starting 13 November. One of them is from Rathauspark, in front of the City Hall. The Market sums up around 150 little wooden cottages where the visitors can buy dried fruit, flavored punch, baked potatoes and chestnuts, wooden toys, gingerbread cookies and of course hand made Christmas decorations. This market is open until 24 December.
Another Christmas Market is the Christmas Village Belvedere Palace placed in front of the most famous baroque castle. The visitors find here culinary traditions they can enjoy while having fun and listening to music.
The poetry fans can take advantage of the daily poetry readings that take place in the Christmas Divina Art Market in Karlsplats. Also, fireworks are organized here, and the expositions offer unique items for grownups and kids.

The architecture fans can visit the Spittekberg district with narrow streets and buildings from Biedermeier period. The ladies can findsilver jewels, ceramics, art and warm clothing here. Christkindlmarkt Spittelberg opens on 16 November and closes its gates on 23 December.
One of the most visited Vienna Christmas Markets is the Schonbrunn Castle Christmas Market just before Schonbrunn Palace. The market is very entertaining for children who will find here a large number of sweets. The market is open between 20 November and 26 December.
