England has enjoyed the tradition of Christmas for hundreds of years and most citizens get a special feeling inside when the Christmas lights are first turned on for the holiday season. One of the best places to enjoy this festive tradition is in the famous city of Manchester.
If you head to Albert Square on Nov. 12th you can witness the turning on of the lights at the Manchester Christmas Lights Switch On and then enjoy an evening of wonderful entertainment in the square.
A different celebrity guest turns the colorful display of lights on each year and then local artists and bands take over to provide the free entertainment to the crowds as everybody erupts into mass sing-alongs to provide a wonderful friendly atmosphere no matter what the weather’s like.
Local residents also set up street stalls near Albert Square where they sell festive treats along with colorful flashing lights. When the fun and entertainment’s done the night ends with a bang and a spectacular fireworks display. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate the coming of Christmas.
While you’re in Manchester there are numerous places to see and things to do as the city has a rich history with many monuments, museums and famous sites to visit. Sports lovers may want to take in a soccer game as the city is home to the world-famous Manchester United and Manchester City soccer clubs.
