healthWintertime brings thoughts of warmer places.

Maybe it is snowy and icy where you are living and you would love to get away on a vacation.

That is almost everyone’s dream when the winter weather turns frigid cold.

The change in climate though can sometimes affect your health. There are many health dangers that you need to consider when traveling to a warmer climate.

Many health dangers are mild but can become severe without proper care.  It is a good thing to find out about these dangers and how to prevent them before you go on vacation.

Diarrhea

Diarrhea is a health danger that can start 12 to 72 hours after eating or drinking contaminated food or liquid. Symptoms of diarrhea are usually nausea, stomach cramping and vomiting.

What you have to look for in warm climates is getting dehydrated from the diarrhea. You will need to replenish your liquid intake with fruit juices and broth. [Diarrhea Treatment]

Although most vacationers get a mild case of diarrhea, some instances can become more serious.  Your diarrhea will usually go away in about a week. You can be prepared for this uncomfortable health danger by getting medicine from your doctor before you leave for vacation.

Heat Exhaustion

Heat exhaustion is a common health danger when going to a warm climate and it is self explanatory.  Be careful about becoming too hot out in the sun because you can be overcome by the heat. You certainly don’t want to get a “heat stroke” on vacation.

If you get heat exhaustion you will have a giddy feeling. Loss of balance and your breathing becoming shallow are other symptoms that you may feel. Heat stroke can come on quickly. Treatment is as simple as lying down in the shade in a cool, airy place.

Loosen your clothing so that you can breath and splash a little water on your face. If symptoms persist you will need to call emergency help.

Make sure you wear a hat or carry an umbrella when going out in the sun. Keeping yourself hydrated is also a good idea. These preventive tips will help to prevent heat exhaustion.

Asthma

If you are someone that suffers from Asthma then you will need to take extra precautions when traveling to warm climates. Heat can bring on an asthma attack.

You will feel your chest tightening and breathing can become hard to do. Taking you asthma inhalers with you on vacation will help when symptoms start to show up.

Cough drops will take the tickle out of your throat when you start to cough. Drinking plenty of fluids will keep your bronchial tubes wet and help you to breathe better.

The main thing to do to help prevent an asthma attack while on vacation is to try to stay out of the direct heat as much as possible.

Warm climates can be a wonderful place to go for any vacation. If you go prepared for the heat then you should be able to avoid these health dangers.
