Quebec City, located in the Canadian province of Quebec is one of the oldest and most charming cities in all of North /America. It’s very historical and one of the continent’s last remaining fortified cities. These are some of its top attractions.

 

1. The Citadel

The Citadel is one of Quebec City’s most popular attractions as it represents its historic military past. Quebec is one of North America’s only remaining fortified cities and was a very important site for the British. Building of the Citadel started in 1820 and it wasn’t completed until more than 30 years later. The Citadel was erected on top of Quebec’s highest natural point and offers some excellent views of the nearby St. Lawrence River. The site is still used each year for military ceremonies.

2. Jacques-Cartier National Park

This wonderful park is actually located about 30 miles north of the city and is home to some of the most popular lakes in the region. It features a pretty large mountainous plateau which is quite dominant. You’ll also find some great glacial valleys that wind through the park. There’s a river that alternates from calm to turbulent that has cut its way into the plateau.

3. The Plains of Abraham

The famous Plains of Abraham are located in Battlefields Park, which was established back in 1908. This was the site of many historic battles between the British and French Armies during 1759. As well as being an extremely historical site, the park also offers some beautiful public gardens. You’ll also be able to enjoy outdoor concerts in the summer months and snowshoeing and cross-country skiing during the winters. Quebec’s national holiday, which falls on June 24th, is celebrated here each year.

4. Sainte Anne de Beaupre Basilica

This 17th-century shrine is the oldest pilgrimage site in North America. It attracts millions of people each year who come to visit Saint Anne’s golden statue. The basilica also has some wonderful stained glass windows as well as some historical works of art.

5. Observatoire de la Capitale

The Marie-Guyart Building is the highest point in the city of Quebec and the views from the 31st floor are quite stunning to say the least. You’ll be able to enjoy some amazing 360-degree views from the huge windows in the observatory. There are also some interactive terminals where you can just touch the screen to access three-dimensional images and accompanying soundtracks.

6. Old Quebec

The area that makes up Old Quebec is very charming and one of the city’s biggest attractions. It’s filled with ancient stone houses, charming shops, and romantic cobblestone streets. It was fortified back in 1608 and was the former capital of New France. There are more than 250 restaurants in this area of Quebec City.

7. Montmorency Falls Park

This wonderful Park sits just 10 minutes outside of Quebec City. There are numerous beautiful sites here, but the most popular are the waterfalls. These falls are 275 feet in height, making them higher than the famous Niagara Falls.

8. The Parliament Building

The Parliament Building is located just outside of Old Quebec. It is where Quebec’s National Assembly meets and was erected between 1877 and 1886. There are statues of many key historical provincial figures on display here.

9. The Seven Falls

The Seven Falls lie next to the Sainte-Anne-du-Nord River, which is just outside of the city in a region called Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges, The Seven Falls are among the most beautiful sites in Quebec province. You’ll be able to hike the many trails and check out the falls from about 20 different lookout points.

10. The Morrin Centre

This historic site was the first prison in Quebec City and was constructed more than 200 years ago. It’s now one of the best libraries in the world. You can take guided tours of the library during the summers as the jail cells are still there.
