The annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival will be taking place between April 29th and May 8that the city’s Fair Grounds Race Course.
The festival attracts many popular international headline performers each year with the concerts taking place over 2 weekends at the fair grounds and several other locations in the city on 12 different stages. There are all styles of music that are associated with Louisiana and New Orleans.
Some of the most popular names in the jazz and blues world will be performing during the festival, such as Wynton Marsalis, Roy Haynes, Dr John, Etta James, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, and John Mayall.
You’ll also get to hear the soulful sounds of Earth, Wind, Fire, Tom Jones, and Erykah Badu. Rock fans aren’t forgotten and they can enjoy shows by Kings of Leon, Bon Jovi, The Strokes, Robert Plant, Cyndi Lauper, Arcade Fire, John Mellencamp, and Jeff Beck.
You’ll also find a host of other events including local crafts, food, and culture. There are numerous food outlets that offer some of the region’s most famous delicacies such as jambalaya, spicy Cajun duck, and Creole filé gumbo.
The first festival took place in 1971 in front of about 350 fans. It has grown tremendously over the years and now thousands of music lovers attend from all over the world.
The event has received a host of honors over the years and was named by Pollstar Magazine as the Festival of the Year on 4 separate occasions. It was also names as the very best music festival in America by Life magazine.
This is one of the largest and most popular music festivals in the world, not just America and the diverse mix of world-class performers is second to none.
