You can never go wrong visiting the capital city of Lisbon, Portugal. However, if you visit the historic centre between July 31 and August 14, 2010, you’ll be able to take in the popular Festival dos Oceanos, known as the Oceans Festival.

2010 Festival Dos Oceanos

This year’s event is devoted to the commemoration of the centenary of the Portuguese Republic.

It will feature several attractions and events that will bring to life the riverside area of the city.

The festival will showcase appealing performances, surprises, Fado music, nights, concerts, paintings, street entertainment, exhibitions, fireworks displays, and interactive activities for people of all ages. The city’s museums will also be open at night and the one of the best things about the Oceans Festival is that it’s free of charge.

This year marks the seventh edition of the event which is put on by the Lisbon Tourism Association, City Hall, Casino Lisboa, and others. It attracts thousands of visitors each year and is an excellent addition to an already inviting city.

The festival will feature a concert by popular American singer Lauryn Hill to open the celebrations on July 31 at Commerce Square.

Some of the specific events take place on certain days and it’s a good idea to visit www.cm-lisboa.pt/turismo/ for more information.
