1. Vienna, Austria
Dressed like a bride, this romantic city glistens with whole streets being decorated in garlands of bulbs interspersed with giant chandeliers. The streets thus decorated lead to the St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Throughout the holiday season, the Schonbrunn Palace resonates with the Advent concerts. The entire city is decorated in lights, pine branches and ribbons way into the first week of January.
2. Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen
Overlooking the Tivoli Lake is the Tivoli garden which houses a Japanese restaurant, a concert hall and an old roller coaster. They are all decorated in festive lights and people come here to enjoy the warm glogg and the apple dumplings. Visit between November and early January to witness the grandeur of this place.
3. Brussels, Belgium
Lit up historic buildings and piped in music do much to lift the spirit of the holiday traveler. TheChristmas market is packed with people wanting to savor the traditional Belgian waffles and cuberdon candies. This fare is open until January 11th.
4. Callaway Gardens, Georgia
This is a resort complex that is flooded with close to 8 million lights. Called the Fantasy in Lights, this is an annual event that is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Scenes from classic fairy tales are adapted and replicated in lit figurines. The onsite Christmas village is a must visit.
5. Medellin, Colombia
The holiday lights in this city are displayed all along the Medellin River. The promenade is lined with food stalls and the whole air is filled with a carnival-like atmosphere.
6. Gothenburg, Sweden
This quaint river town remains illuminated throughout the season with about 5 million lights adoring the stately buildings and numerous Christmas trees that dot the town. The lilting tunes of the choirs and a Lane of Light are all part of the holiday celebrations.
7. Hong Kong, China
During festive season, Hong Kong Disney Land is the place to be in. Every mall in the city is bedecked with the best lights of the season and the skyline is filled with colorful lights as far as the eyes can behold. The Plaza Mayor is the centre of all the festivities and lighting. The 18th century holiday market comes alive with the stalls for food and figures. The final day of the holiday on the 5th of January culminates in a victory parade and is called the Eve of the Epiphany.

Innumerable hand-painted bulbs built into the luminarie of Gothic structure are lit up for up to 2 weeks near the historic Higashi-Yuenchi Park.
10. Saint Augustine, Florida
This historic and beautiful city in the USA is replete with heritage. This historic district consisting of 144 blocks gets twinkling with 2 million bulbs that illuminate the streets. Called the Night of Lights, this sight is open until the end of January for visitors.
