Any time of the year is ideal to visit Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada, but things really light up this year with the 28th annual Winter Festival of Lights which runs from Nov. 6 to Jan 31, 2011.

This year’s festival is going to be larger, brighter and longer than ever before. That’s because the lights will illuminate the Niagara Falls area for an additional three weeks this winter, making it ideal for those who can’t make it during Christmas and New Year’s.

The event’s scenic drove which travels down the Niagara Parkway will also be longer and there’s going to be a new attraction called Santa’s Village.

The festival will feature 125 displays that are made up of about three million Christmas lights. It’s the largest lights festival in Canada and one of the biggest in North America.

The event also has an outdoor ice skating rink where visitors can skate under the stars and features concerts and special opening ceremonies.

Last winter’s event attracted over a million visitors and it’s hoped that this year’s will pull in just as many or more people who want to enjoy the natural beauty of the Niagara Falls region.
