You don’t really have to be religious to appreciate the intricate workmanship that was involved in some of the world’s most amazing churches and cathedrals. Many of the structures are architectural masterpieces. These are some of the most fascinating cathedrals and churches across the globe.

Churches

1. Notre Dame-Paris, France

This world-famous cathedral is an excellent example of Gothic architecture. It’s one of the most visited in the world and was the setting for “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”

2. Sagrada Família- Barcelona, Spain

Construction on this church began way back in 1882. However, it’s still not finished. In 1984 it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site and in 2010 it was consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI. It’s one of Barcelona’s most visited sites.

3. St. Paul’s Cathedral- London, England

This famous cathedral is one of London’s most popular tourist attractions. It’s the seat of the Bishop and also hosted the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Diana Spencer, the late Princess of Wales.

4. Cologne Cathedral-Cologne, Germany

This Roman Catholic cathedral was finished in 1880. In 1996 it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s the most-visited landmark in the country as it attracts 20,000 visitors each day.

5. Westminster Abbey-London, England

This fantastic Gothic building was used between 1546 and 1556 as a cathedral. English monarchs are buried here and coronations also take place in the famous, historical abbey.
