Most countries in the northern hemisphere start to warm up in the merry month of May. It’s a great time to travel because of this as the temperatures aren’t too hot and you can usually find some good deals on accommodations before the summer vacation period kicks off. These are some of the best destinations to visit in May.

1. England

England

Sure, England suffers from the myth of bad weather. But May is often one of the warmest months to visit and if you’re lucky, sometimes one of the driest.  There are tons of festivals going on and the colorful flowers peek out when spring kicks in. And if you like flowers then head over to London’s annual RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London. This five-day show is one of the best and most famous celebrations of gardening in the world.

There are plenty of castles and stately homes to visit and on the last Monday of the month you’ll find the Cheese-Rolling Festival on that takes place in the Cotswolds on Coopers Hill. Soccer lovers will also be glad to know this year’s UEFA Champions League soccer final will be held at London’s Wembley Stadium on May 28th.

2. The Arctic

The Arctic

If you head up north to places such as the North Pole, the Arctic, Alaska, Norway, or Greenland, etc. You’ll find the best time to go is between March and May. This is because the weather is great and there’s a lot of daylight. The skies are clear and you should be able to see the Northern Lights. The snow is melting and this means polar bears and seals are coming out to play.

While a trip to the North Pole may not be realistic, you could consider a cruise through the fjords region in Norway or Greenland.

3. Florida, USA

Florida-USA

The whole state of Florida is an ideal place to visit in May as it’s usually the last dry month in some regions before the rainy, muggy tornado season starts. The weather’s great and the prices are good. This makes it a fine place to check out the numerous amusement parks and golf courses before the crowds start to arrive.

The north-western region of Florida has some amazing sandy beaches at the Gulf Coast where you can relax, surf, and swim.

4. Puebla, Mexico

Puebla-Mexico

Puebla is great to visit at anytime of the year, but you’ll be able to celebrate Cinco de Mayo on May 5th if you visit early in the month. The famous holiday celebrates the outnumbered Mexican Army’s victory over the French on that date in 1862. The holiday is still celebrated today as a way to showcase Mexican heritage, traditions, and culture.

The numerous events include dancing, mariachi bands, and of course Mexican food and drinks.

5. Cannes, France

Cannes-France

This wonderful seaside resort in the south of France is famous for the annual Cannes Film Festival. This year’s event takes place between May 11th and 22nd and you’ll be able to see a variety of film stars all over the place as they showcase their new works of art.

The festival is held at the Palais des Festivals and if you hang around the red carpet long enough you’re sure to recognize many of the famous directors, actresses, and actors. If you’d rather relax, just head to the beach for some sea and sand.

6. The Highlands, Scotland

The-Highlands-Scotland

The best time to explore the Highlands is May when the region is at its most colorful. The valleys and mountains are filled with flowers and beautiful shades of green and brown. There’s plenty of fresh air for hiking, biking, camping, and white water rafting. The region has some charming bed and breakfasts as well as historic castles and a wide range of wildlife, with the most famous being the Loch Ness monster.
