1. Thimpu

The first place on your list should be the capital city of Bhutan, Thimpu. It is a charming city which is caressed by the Himalayas and the famous Chuuriver. 3. Taktsang Monastery

We are talking about one of the internationally renowned monasteries in the world and  is considered a holy place in Bhutan. Known as the Tiger’s Nest, the monastery is situated atop a granite cliff and serves as a place for meditation. Standing on the edge of the cliff with a steep drop of about 800m, the monastery overlooks the beautiful Paro valley.

The Monastery bears historical relevance since it is said that Guru Padma Sambhava—regarded as the second Buddha in the country—did his meditation at the place where the building stands now. He is said to have reached the spot with the assistance of a flying tigress, and hence, the name.

4. Wangduephodrang

Wangduephodrang is the last town along the central highway just before central Bhutan and situated in the south of Punakha. It is popular for its bamboo products, stone and slate carving, What is amazing about the town is the aesthetically incredible view of the confluence of Tang Chuu and Punakha Chu rivers.

The best time to visit the town is during the Tsechu celebration which happens in autumn.

5. Haa Valley

Haa Valley is among the lesser-known tourist attractions of Bhutan, but, if you are a lover of nature, then you cannot give this town a miss. Apart from its lush flora and fauna, the valley is known for its temples—TagchuGoemba, which is a century-old temple; KhakhangKarop, which is the famed White temple, ShekharDrak, which is known for its unique design. There are also fortresses in the region, and one of the most famous ones is DobjiDzong situated on a hilltop.
