North America? The only Canadian attraction they listed as being in New York. The New York side of the falls suck. Sorry.

  3. Carnivore says:

That pic is not the Metropolitan Museum.

  4. Zod says:

    18. Metropolitan Museum, New York, N.Y.

That is not a picture of the Met. its the New York Public Library on 42nd and 5th.

  5. Michelle says:

Interesting article, but I just wanted to let you know, your picture of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC is actually a picture of the NYC Public Library. Almost equally as awesome, but certainly not the same thing. :)

  6. Tom says:

    Where’s New Orleans Bourbon Street?

  7. john says:

Don’t forget Mall of American and its 20+ million annual visitors.

  8. matt says:

Not sure if the Mall of America in Bloomington Mn qualifies, but it attracts something like 40 million visitors per year.

  9. Marco S. says:

    America is wonderful.
And every place reminds me of a movie… :) )

  10. matt says:

  14. Nikki says:

You forgot my town: Branson, Missouri!

  15. New Yorker says:

That’s the Met without a doubt. Don’t know why two people don’t think so (I’ve been there a million times and I have a degree in Art History, so don’t even try to disagree with me).

Great list, though. Some surprises – Boston beats Disneyworld? No way!

  16. A very interesting list…I wonder how they determined the rankings. #4, #10, #16, #22, #25 make no other published list of the top 50 and rarely break the top 1– on any list in North America…Other’s have pointed out the lack of sites in Canada…

What were Forbes criteria, do you suppose? Did they separate casual traffic (locals) from destination tourists? It would seem not.

At any rate, to many of us Westerners, this represents the list of Top 25 Places to Absolutely, and At All Costs, Avoid Like the Plague. An extremely useful list in and of itself.

  17. Håkan Uragård says:

An interesting and adoreable list of images!
There are some doubts about my picture of Met Museum NYC …but I´m sure it is the Metropolitan Museum of Art! I have compared to my own Public Library, 42nd St, 5th Av images on Flickr, and the wonderful entrance over there doesn´t look like this one… I would appreciate a proof if I´m wrong!

    All the best
    Håkan

  18. Aaron says:

Where’s yellowstone and yosemite? how can temple square in Utah be a bigger destination than grand canyon?

  19. Thomas says:

Graceland has to be in the Top 10.

  20. Dan says:

The NY Public Library has lions. No lions here. It’s definitely the Met.

  21. mnop says:

Chicago (IL) and Boulder (CO) are the must places to visit as well.

  22. Great list – it was fun to go through it and realize I’ve ben to most of those places.

Now if you would only do a list like that for places in all of North, Central, and South America… We’ll be taking off soon to ride our bikes from Alaska to Argentina and would love to have a list of “must-see” places for the whole region!

You can read about our journey at http://www.familyonbikes.org

  23. Bill says:

It’s funny to me how Magic Kingdom gets visited more than Disneyland because of how much better Disneyland Park is compared to Magic Kingdom. Maybe it is the fact Disney world has 3 other complete parks instead of Disneyland Resort’s 1 other (which is rather small). For info on DL check out http://www.originald.com

  24. ken says:

hey Jeff, or whatever, it’s America, not north America. As in this country. note the Hawaii one….that is certainly not in North America. Enjoy your free healthcare in the frozen tundra that is your country.

  25. food says:

As usual, big cities like Houston and Dallas suck as a tourist destination, yet they continue to try and argue with each other about their HP and VP and other crappy destinations that nobody else outside of those two cities gives a crap about.

  26. rockaway says:

Just want people to be aware that the Skywalk in Grand Canyon is not within Grand Canyon National Park. You will have to travel far and pay big bucks to walk on the skywalk, it’s on the Hualapai Indian Reservation.

  27. Mark says:

It speaks volumes that most of these places are theme parks, malls, gambling dives, bar crawls and other crass overwrought sideshow arcades. What, two museums and three or four natural areas out of 25 top destinations? What a culture. Little pink houses for you and me.

  28. bruce says:

being an english person, and having visited the usa on many occasions, i have to agree with your list, but i would add a couple, i think the historic element which simply oozes out of two cities, charleston sc and savannah in georgia, most americans really need to take in these cities and experience your own history, not to be missed.
