Traveler’s diarrhea can be identified as any illness ranging from the upset of stomach to loose stools either during the journey or after the period.

It includes diversity of symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, bloody stools, headache that can happen due to the adverse changes in foods as well as beverages habits.

Another reason can be touching your nose or mouth with polluted hands. Travelling in developing countries like Latin America, Asia or Africa can be hazardous in this respect rather than travelling in countries like Greece, Southern Spain, Turkey, Israel and Italy.

Medication can be the safest way to combat with traveler’s diarrhea. Research shows that intake of Pepto-Bismol, a medicine can prevent diarrhea up to 60% though it can end up with constipation.

People have allergies with aspirin should not intake this medicine. It is preferable to consult with your physician before taking the medicine. Another medication is often prescribed for this disorder is – prophylactic antibiotic. However, take antibiotics only as per the physician’s recommendation as they can have side effects as well.

Be aware of Taking Water or any other Liquids

One of the easy ways to prevent traveler’s diarrhea is to be careful about the usage of water as it is counted as the most common source of diarrhea. To be safe try to drink bottled beverages including water. Evade brushing your teeth with tap water or washing fruits or vegetables with the same as they can have unsafe water supply.

Water should be purified either by boiling regime or by using iodine. Boiled water should be allowed to settle before drinking as sediments are likely to be found in water post boiling. Though alcoholic products are safe in this contest but you have to keep in mind about the usage of ice cubes which can be the reason of traveler’s diarrhea.

Careful While Choosing Foods

Foods can be another source of this disease. Thus you have to be careful while choosing your food. Always remember to circumvent street foods where hygiene is not maintained properly.

Any raw or undercooked meat as well as seafood should be avoided. Opt for fruits like banana, orange or avocado which you can peel yourself.

Besides these you should also avoid spicy food, avoid buffet meals and do careful selection of restaurant for your meals.
