Let’s face it, nobody really needs a reason to go to Hawaii to enjoy themselves or just relax. But if you’re into surfing you may want to take a trip there for the annual ASP World Tour – Pipeline Masters which takes place from Dec. 8th to 20th this year at Banzai Pipeline on Ehukai Beach.

This free event takes place on the north shore of Oahu. It’s the final event of the season in the popular men’s World Championship Tour. It’s also the largest in the world of surfing. The setting for this spectacular exhibition of surfing is the Banzai Pipeline, which is a tubed surfing break that’s created by the large winter swells in the ocean. They’re driven towards Oahu by the storm winds that originate in the Aleutian Islands.

The name Banzai was given to the area back in the 1950s after a famous surfing photographer yelled “Banzai” when watching a surfer ride an enormous wave. There’s a lot of beautiful white sand for spectators to make themselves comfortable while witnessing some of the world’s best surfers tackle some of the world’s most vicious waves. It’s a great place to spend a pre-Christmas break and socialize with other surfing enthusiasts.
